Welcome to Look Authority’s fashion community: MODA AUTHORITE, which means Fashion Authority in French. This is a community for the fashionably curious; this is fashion for fashion people. And in the spirit of being a true fashion gworl or bworl - check out the correct pronunciation below.

Is it reallllyyy fashion if it’s easily said?

RECAPS + REVIEWS

On the first Sunday In May, Look Authority Studio - under the guidance and vision of that girl Sal Yvat, presented a third fashion show: Beyond the Bias. The title comes from an experimental documentary chronicling the influence and process of Chicago designers. Naturally, Beyond the Bias had to be explored as an IRL experience, and WOW! an experience it was.

With the Chicago skyline as trim and the beautiful Three Top Lounge as shape, Beyond the Bias fused movement, storytelling, and history to present an incisive and engaging examination of sustainable fashion. Look Authority Studio’s mission is to keep it experimental, to build on the past, and to reimagine the future. One project at a time.

WHAT TO WATCH

The First Monday in May

On the First Monday in May, the stylish and stylishly mute alike clocked into their position as today’s Joan Rivers to review fashion’s biggest night: the Met Gala. While the Met Gala is popular in the information age, it formally existed as the world’s biggest secret until Rihanna ascended to the top of the museum’s grand staircase in a monumental gown crafted by Chinese designer Guo Pei in 2015. Cardi B attempted to alchemize a similar moment this year but ultimately failed when she referred to the designer of her dress as “Asian and everything.”

The Met Gala was established by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert in 1948 as a midnight dinner at the Waldorf Astoria to raise money for the Costume Institute and celebrate its opening exhibit. The first gala included tickets costing $50 and guests wore their finest formal attire. (Tickets for 2024’s event started around $75,000. )

In 1972, Diana Vreeland, the world’s first Fashion Editor became a consultant to the Costume Institute, and the gala began to evolve into a glamourous affair, embracing pop culture and celebrities rather than prioritizing socialities and flocked fashion insiders.

Fashion’s Favorite Fossil, Anna Wintour, has maintained the emphasis on celebrity since her involvement in the 90’s. Can this model sustain itself? While Zendaya changed into her second look of the night, millions of people were being bombed across the pond.

Hunger Games vibes or not, the Met Gala at its pith is a lavish fundraiser for a history museum, and its history is fascinating. If you are interested in learning more about the Met Gala, watch The First Monday in May. (Available for free on TUBI)
